Natural lawyer

If we learn to quit romanticizing triviality, we'll be able to defend life and make justice in this world. I'm not saying don't have fun and be trivial, but get some principles, some priorities. This seems revolutionary to yesterday's don't be fanatic, because it can be judged as so; where do we draw the line?

When a lie is repeated enough, it becomes the truth even if we know it's a lie. This has to do with our subconscious, which can't tell lies from truth. This subtlety, delicacy, carefulness, caring, was present in pre-colonial places in the world. We have to call it from our standpoint a subtlety because we've become extremely desensitized by the reality a world ran by lies has created. Civilizations and societies six centuries ago were free from it, so it was a rock solid reality, nobody lied, there was no point. Humans then perceived a lot more, so lying made no sense. Today amazon natives, when someone evidently stole something from someone, will visit a shaman to know who it was, and this shaman will ingest floripondio which in dreams will reveal the perpetrator of the theft. Perceptual technologies like this one are absent in a modern world that does not believe in them. This kind of evidence wouldn't fly in a court house.

So there is no objective reality, our beliefs are what materialize into structures that shape the fluidity of the energy that is slowed in this time and space ship that is organic life Pachamama. We obey the rules even if we know they are wrong, or they are lies, because then not doing so would get us into trouble. Today's nawal wants to express the importance of finding wise principles and of standing up to them and living by them regardless of the outcome. Happiness, reproduction, getting by, are not real purposes in life. We need to have a greater goal, and if we don't it's because we yet don't have a greater understanding. So let's start there. The dog is here to defend all the principles and lessons we've been channeling and sharing throughout this daily nawal qu'ij reading journey. Every single one must be included and in the uniting of them all, diversity in unity, we will then comprehend wholesomely enough what we are to strive for and defend.

We might not want to defend life, but we must. We must advocate for the natural law and natural principles, and stand up to the lies; find ways not to be stomped by them but also not to obey them. Creativity, energy, health, stamina, power, intelligence, wisdom, patience, bravery and perseverance are all necessary tools we are forced to develop if we are to become real advocates. That's what I want to be, a natural law lawyer, that would be a title that would suit me well.

Just.

We humans like good mammalians entertain ourselves barking at the passers by and making a big show and fuzz about anything and everything that happens. Emotions were charged yesterday, we enter the final round of judgment trying to figure out how to end this war mongering civilization and lay way to something different as the northern lands pass through the coldest days of the year and the southern lands get ravaged by fires and extreme heat. The wisdom of the nawals and of stars connects us to something that brings us peace, those who believe that astrology isn't true, are the ones more prone to get ran over by the train of what is happening.

Within this fuzz we think that there is a reason and a cause to all the wrong that is happening, we play hot potato and it is just a game. Our sense of wanting to make justice seeks a reason and a person to pinpoint as the source of the mistake, of what went wrong or the one and only cause for the suffering. Monotheism at its deceiving best. There is never one source and there is never even a point in looking back. We can solve everything if we completely forgive the past, draw a blank slate and try to figure how to make the best of what is going to come. Today's nawal brings us a peace where even if we are surrounded by fire or frozen cold and alone, there is only looking forward and making the best of the situation, we understand that it is only fair to be where we are. Even if there is still so much missing and so much wrong, we have just what we need to continue for now, and only in moving forward does anything really make sense.

Taste.

The deviation and the deviated are not always cleansed and purged; in a part of the cycle like this, they can be kept, withheld, accepted, and integrated into the greater circle of love. Love and care are not merely providing for and looking after your loved ones—that is a baseline requirement, a necessity that must be covered if an infant is to survive. Yet this provision on its own is far from enough to be considered true care and love. Care and love are what we cultivate beyond the mechanics of providing food: preparing it with devotion, infusing it with flavor, making it tasty. This element of tastiness demands good taste, rhythm, and harmony—spicing up a regular day and a simple meal.

Taste exists far beyond basic provision. If the physical vessel were separated from the soul, living a tasteful, vibrant life would be unnecessary—receiving exact, sterile nutrients would suffice. But the body and soul are undivided. Therefore, we require soul in our food, in our relationships, in our music, and good vibes in our daily rhythm to remain healthy, to smile, and to feel truly cherished.

Some generations ago, many individuals experienced this void—if not from both parents, then certainly from their fathers. A father was expected to enforce authority, boundary defense, and material provision, but never to bestow tender affection or pamper with warmth. Many grew up starved of this softness. These individuals learned to heal this missing piece by realizing that tasteful affection is the essential ingredient that yields the deep love we crave. Offering it requires no heroic physical strain; it is not a matter of material production, shelter, or defense against danger. Yet giving and receiving it forces us to reconnect with the intangible, the soul, and the subtle—qualities that modern, hyper-mechanized society has rendered as scarce as possible.

The next time you seek to enact justice, uphold morality, or treat yourself and others right, look beyond the bare bone of stiff righteousness and moral duty. Seek the taste in how you respond, the vibe you sustain, and whether your crusade of care is actually tasteful. Like it or not, you will ultimately be judged by the taste you leave behind and the soul-spice you bring to the table—not merely by the sterile nutritional content or moral correctness of your acts.

The Dog / Justice / Authority / Law & Loyalty (Tz'i') represents the unconditional loyalty of the dog, spiritual and earthly law, guardianship, justice, boundaries, and the protection of the community. It is the nawal of counselors, judges, emotional fidelity, and the sacred balance between authority and warmth. In its tenth position (Lajuj), it brings the force of manifestation, double hand/foot completeness, systemic structure, and the integration of relationships—grounding abstract justice into tangible, lived reality.

To embody Ten Tz'i' is to realize that law without love is cold tyranny, and justice without taste is mere retribution. It demands that we protect our boundaries not with rigid, unyielding dogma, but with the warm, protective fidelity of a guardian who knows how to make life sweet, safe, and tasteful. At this tenth station of the wave, Tz'i' takes the entity gestating through this trecena—conceived in Imox, voiced in Ik', tested in Ak'ab'al, structured in K'at, vitalized in K'an, given spirit in Keme, grounded in Kej, planted in Q'anil, purified in Toj, and now given form—and wraps it in the warm, protective mantle of true care and emotional flavor. It reminds us that true authority does not just defend the perimeter; it enriches the hearth, sweetens the broth, and weaves unconditional affection into the fabric of the tribe.

RESEARCH

In the Codex Borgia (Plate 11, bottom-left panel), the governing patron deity for the 10th day sign, Itzcuintli (Dog / corresponding to Tz'i' in the Maya Cholq'ij), is Mictlantecuhtli, the Lord of the Underworld and sovereign king of Mictlan.

In parallel manuscripts of the Borgia Group (such as the Codex Fejérváry-Mayer or Codex Telleriano-Remensis), this function is sometimes shared with or assigned to Xolotl—the monstrous, double-headed canine deity of twilight, fire, and lightning who serves as the underworld twin of Quetzalcoatl. However, in the primary Plate 11 panel of the Codex Borgia, it is Mictlantecuhtli who presides directly over the dog sign.

1. Visual Depiction in Codex Borgia (Plate 11, Bottom-Left)

  • Position: Located in the lower-left register of Plate 11, immediately following Atl (Water) in the reading sequence.

  • Iconography of Mictlantecuhtli:

    • Depicted as a skeletal figure with a bare, exposed skull, protruding fangs, and wide, nocturnal eyes.

    • Painted with bone motifs across his limbs and torso, wearing paper ornaments stained with dried sacrificial offerings.

    • His ear ornaments (nacaztli) are formed from human bone or severed human hands.

  • The Day Glyph (Itzcuintli): Positioned adjacent to the deity, showing the profile of a spotted dog head with alert, pointed black ears, visible teeth, and sharp, watchful eyes.

  • Mantic/Contextual Motifs: The panel includes underworld offerings, bone implements, and a sacrificial knife or spine, marking the station of transit between the living world and the realm of the dead.

2. Analytical Overview of Itzcuintli and Mictlantecuhtli

Itzcuintli (The Dog): Sign Dynamics

  • Sign Number: 10th Day Sign of the 260-day Tonalpohualli (corresponding to Tz'i' / Oc in the Maya calendar).

  • Primary Function: The psychopomp—the guide through dark, uncharted, and treacherous terrain. In Mesoamerican cosmology, the dog (xoloitzcuintli) is the only entity capable of leading the human soul (tonalli) across the nine rivers of Mictlan to reach its final rest.

  • Structural Role: Itzcuintli represents boundary enforcement, vigilance, relentless loyalty to its master/tribe, and the raw, unblinking instinct needed to navigate darkness.

Mictlantecuhtli: Theological Mechanics

  • The Sovereign of Dissolution: Mictlantecuhtli rules the place of stripping down. He holds court where all flesh, titles, rationalizations, and false surface identities are removed, leaving only the bare bone (omitl).

  • The Keeper of Law & Return: He is not a devil or an evil entity; he is the absolute boundary of physical law. He ensures that what completes its cycle is properly returned to the earth, preserved as ancestral seed, and not allowed to rot unintegrated above ground.

3. Theological & Structural Synthesis (Itzcuintli + Mictlantecuhtli)

When Itzcuintli (the psychopomp guide and boundary protector) operates under Mictlantecuhtli (the skeletal lord of ultimate resolution), the precise mechanics of the 10th station emerge:

  1. Law as Guardian, Not Tyrant: Mictlantecuhtli provides the immovable wall; Itzcuintli provides the sharp instinct to walk alongside it. In this pairing, law and boundary are not abstract punishments—they are the literal protection that prevents the soul from wandering aimlessly into void or rot.

  2. Navigating the Dark Underworld: Following the radical purging, water-swelling, and deviation of the 9th station (Atl / Toj), the 10th station (Itzcuintli) brings the necessary guide. Mictlantecuhtli demands that any deviation brought out of the 9th station must be tested, guided, and given structural integrity so it can survive in the real world.

  3. The Unblinking Eye of Justice: Mictlantecuhtli’s bare skull has no eyelids or skin—it cannot blink or hide behind pretenses. Paired with the dog's absolute loyalty and territorial vigilance, this sign demands total transparency: actions are stripped down to their bare bones to reveal their true structure and intent.
