No word or advice should be taken as a blanket term, we are not cursed as me make ourselves believe we are. The punitive and violence based worldview imposed on the whole world will continuously stalk us to find ways in which we can be scared and so that this fear will prevent us from expanding into the mindset and place we want to expand to. We get stuck on fear, and if not punishment, the idea of debt and the exercise of debt, the feudal system we so comfortably inhabit. Illness and bad spells strike us when we think they are there for a reason, because an impossible purist-moralist expectation is imposed on us and the only way of being humans is to break that, to be bad, to sin. We break the law or we break someone's expectations, but we can very hardly remain loyal to what is required for us to be so that we remain debt free, in both economic and spiritual senses.
Our actions have immediate consequence on our surroundings, we are our surroundings, and we must learn to discern which actions are actually harmful and which ones are liberating, that task can get confusing. Today's nawal is here to bring us guidance in this manner. Symbolically you want to get ahead by becoming cleaner, literally, being more careful with your house, yourself, others. The magic will be in how you treat the dishes, how much of a priority that is, our kitchen and our house are the house of the spirits as well, and so they will feel better too if you make the space better for them. We have always thought of Tooj as the universal well of water, because it is. A unique well of water in which we are all submerged. We drink and excrete in the same water. What affects one affects us all. If the well becomes contaminated, everyone becomes contaminated. It is the best metaphor for the principle that in the East is called karma, and that we have adopted universally.
But Tooj is also fire, and fire is not static like a well of water. Fire is mutation, transition, the combustion of fuel—a process that seeks to extinguish itself, and can only continue as long as it is fed.
Today’s combination invites us to activate the nawal Tooj and to transmute our way of relating to it. In this invitation, it shares with us the image of the river, which also is—or wants to be. The river is flowing water; it is not static. If it is contaminated, the polluted water flows along with the river, and if it stops being polluted, the river itself carries all the contaminants away. It is a body like ours, in constant flow, change, healing, and purification.
So when a pain, an ailment, an illness clings to you, it would be a mistake to think it is the body. It is our mind that clings to it, that does not want to flow with it, does not want to be carried to where it leads. When we do not want to change, when we do not want to flow, then pain manifests. The earth, when it is ravaged and its trees are cut down, dries up. Streams and rivers carry less water. In the same way, if we do not plant a forest of knowledge in our lives, we will carry little water. And even if we already have a forest, the world affects us—the seasons, the shifts of eras. Sometimes the river overflows; other times it runs low. If we learn to flow, we will understand that we do not always have to be, give, and receive abundantly; sometimes love is just a little. No matter how small the stream, it still flows. Today is a beautiful day in which we learn to flow like the mother river.

The encounter with the monstrous reflection of our naked selves in ecstasy leads us directly to the stream that flows from this living spring. We refuse to drown in the stagnant pool of our own egoic melting, and so we open the gate and let the current run. In this relentless flow, commanded by today's sacred fire, we learn that we cannot demand the instant bliss of our desires be made manifest, nor can we demand that the assurance of our future be painted clearly before our eyes. Instead, all that may stand in front of you today is a stack of unwashed dishes, and all you can truly do is choose to wash them—or stand paralyzed, thinking, waiting, and wishing.
At times, raw pleasure will be what stands in front of us, yet it often wears the familiar mask of something we previously judged too polluted or harmful for our chosen liberation from the webs of ecstasy. Again, we can stand before it starving, wishing it were a more spiritually pristine meal, or we can simply partake of it, bending our rigidity and deepening our understanding of what "harmful" truly means. Life, and whatever appears directly in our path, is never sent to destroy us; it arrives to expand our spiritual tolerance and force us to grow.
Flowing with the current is the ultimate means of cleansing and purification. It is the act of letting the waters in, accepting the raw currents, and learning to taste what we once deemed nasty. Today's nawal teaches us that we cannot keep our lives safely vanilla—we must learn to taste the heavy mole and the bitter chocolate, and find our footing in the spice and the rum as well.
