Deviation.

In today's slave society, any deviation from the norm, from what is normal, or considered normal, is labeled as undesirable, sinful and downright prone to be destroyed or outcasted. This was not the case in native cultures in the Americas, where those who were born different, were treated with reverence and upmost respect. Monotheistic religion and culture creates an obligatory dichotomy where what is not considered "sacred" must then be considered "profane". This ideology is the root to all racism and all wars in the world.

Today's Ajmaq then is here to make the call to a return to a world where all differences and deviations from the norm can be accepted and allowed to manifest within the sacred space of creation. The military-industrial complex will never become "sacred" in any way, smart, intelligent or caring; it's just an economic system that functions like a wildfire, it eats anything that there is left without any consideration and turns it all into ashes. In face of this civilizational reality we need to strongly consider quitting anything related to this system, and that of course will put us all in the profane category, according to the normal god.

We will have to go forward, which will be going against those who are too tired and self abandoned to leave this system. I understand, if you stay within the boundaries of what it determines as normal, then you won't be in the line of fire. But for those who's heart still hosts the spark of creation, they will embrace this message most dearly. Today's energy we dedicate to call sacred all of that which seeks to mutate into something different, that is brave and creative enough to be casted out into the danger of seeking a different way. Today we allow that to take root in the earth and help us with resisting and surviving the raging fire.

Today's energy allows us to look at and find how deviations can become solutions to problems that otherwise wouldn't be solvable without it. It invites us to step outside, think differently and accept ourselves being weird. It gives us a necessary freedom and a necessary letting go of acceptance and external validation. It opens a space for exploration into what could be different, allowing us to experiment and explore. I thank this nawal so dearly, I hold it so sacred in my heart.

Shadow.

You may have already heard of the nawalli, or the nagual; if not, it is the invisible void toward which existing creation flows. The potential energy, the dark matter, the mother field, the unraveled threads sprouting from the great eagle that we assemble to create the tonalli—the sun, the body, the earth, the visible, the knowable, and the describable. Sewalli (or segualli), on the other hand, is simply the shadow cast by the tonalli. It is the void, smallness, nothingness, absolute negativity, and nihilism. It is impossible not to carry it, and it helps us see with greater contrast and better comprehend the light we contemplate. However, there is a strong tendency to hide within that shadow, or worse, to become it.

The great sorceress Oselotl tends to get quite confused regarding this matter. She tells herself: "I perform magic, I act hard to get, I am unavailable and therefore mysterious and mischievous. I do not know, I doubt, I am completely lost, abandoned to subjectivity, asleep so that the prince of the tonal may enlighten me." Oselotl men and women indulge in this game: hiding in the shadow, believing they are working with the nagual, playing at magic and non-doing, when in reality they are merely sticking their heads up their own asses. Yesterday's defragmentation exposed all our flaws, deficiencies, gaps, and disconnections; it had better served us to continue an inspired creation with greater realism and sobriety.

Today, Ajmaq invites us to play with those flaws, to have fun with the shadow, and to recognize that doing so is fine for a moment. Remaining there permanently is not. Toying and playing with the imperfect is necessary and entertaining, but let us not insult the Nawal Cozcacuauhtli (Vulture / Ring-Necked Eagle): he represents deep wisdom, condonation, and ancestral connection. He embodies the eyes that gaze from the darkness—the true darkness of the nagual, not the faint, comfortable shadow of the tonal that is the sewalli.

This is precisely where today's gift reveals itself. Ajmaq brings the call for a return to a world where all differences and deviations from the norm can be accepted and allowed to manifest within the sacred space of creation. Today's energy allows us to look and discover how deviations can become solutions to problems that would otherwise be unsolvable. It invites us to step outside the established frame, to think differently, to accept our own strangeness, and to embrace a necessary freedom detached from external validation. We dedicate this day to calling sacred everything that seeks to mutate into something different—anyone brave and creative enough to face the danger of seeking another path, allowing that deviation to take root in the earth to help us resist and survive the unleashed fire.

Perhaps today we can reconnect with that ancestral wisdom and continue the work of sweeping the island of the tonal. After going out, having a drink, enjoying ourselves, and letting go with a non-doing that might seem detrimental to the natural cycles, we can better resume the path of natural order and bring true balance to our lives. There is no way you can remain in the false shadow of the sewalli after understanding this. Today is a day of great wisdom and the beginning of a light-filled understanding thanks to the active Cozcacuauhtli. Deviation is not a flaw; it is the crack through which light enters and the tool with which we sweep away our faults.

The Vulture / The Condor / Ancestral Wisdom / Forgiveness & Faults (Ajmaq) represents ancestral wisdom, the capacity to transmute dense material into spiritual nourishment, forgiveness, human flaws, curiosity, and reconnection with the elders and the memory of the earth. It is the nawal of the old ones, of the healers who cleanse offenses and missteps, of deep introspection, and of recognizing our shadows and deviations to return to natural order. In its third position (Oxib'), it introduces the frequency of rhythm, catalysis, primary balance, initial action testing intent, and the necessity of taking a decisive stand in the face of life's duality.

To embody Three Ajmaq is to have the courage to look at your own faults and deviations from the norm without falling into the self-deception of the sewalli or the guilt imposed by societal rules. It demands using the wisdom of the vulture to soar above the shadows of the ego, cleanse past offenses, and recognize that being different is a sacred pathway for bringing real solutions to the world. At this third station of the trecena of I'x—which originated in the deep cave of One I'x and mirrored itself in Two Tz'ikin—Ajmaq introduces the catalyst of concrete action and the test of honesty. It reminds us that we are not here to hide in the false comfort of our flaws, but to learn from them, forgive our missteps, embrace our uniqueness, and sweep the house of the spirit to walk upon the earth with sobriety and wisdom.

Patron Deity of the Sign: Itzpapalotl (Obsidian Butterfly)

In the Codex Borgia (Plate 12, bottom-left panel), the governing patron deity presiding over Cozcacuauhtli is Itzpapalotl ("Obsidian Butterfly").

  • Depicted as a terrifying skeletal goddess adorned with butterfly wings tipped with sharp obsidian blades (itzli).
